Everyone with debt knows the feeling: you make a payment, the balance barely moves, and there's nothing to show for it except a slightly different number on a statement you'd rather not open. The maths is working — but it feels like nothing is happening. That feeling is why so many payoff plans quietly die.

DebtBoss is our answer. It's an iOS app built on one idea: your debt should be a monster, and every payment should be a hit.

How it works

You enter your debts — balance, interest rate, minimum payment — and each one becomes a monster with an HP bar. From there:

  • Every payment you log damages the monster. Watch the HP bar drop in real time, instead of squinting at a statement.
  • You earn XP and achievements as you pay things down, keeping a sense of progress alive between the big milestones.
  • Quests give you something to do this week, not just "keep going for three years" — the app personalises them to where you are in your payoff.
  • Streaks reward consistency, which is the single biggest predictor of actually finishing.
  • Projections show your debt-free date and estimated interest saved, and update as you pay — so an extra £50 isn't an abstract sacrifice, it's a visible jump toward the finish.

When a monster's HP hits zero, that debt is defeated. There is genuinely no spreadsheet cell that feels like that.

Snowball, avalanche, or your own order

DebtBoss supports the two classic payoff strategies — snowball (smallest balance first, for momentum) and avalanche (highest interest first, for the maths) — and shows how each plays out with your real numbers before you commit. Prefer your own order? Set it manually. We present the options neutrally, because the best method is the one you finish.

An AI coach in your corner

Need help getting set up? The AI debt wizard helps you structure your debts into a plan. Losing steam? The AI coach gives you a recap of your progress and a nudge tailored to it. One important line we don't cross: the AI gives general information and encouragement, never advice about what you should do with your specific finances — that call is always yours.

Built private on purpose

We think a debt app should know as little about you as possible:

  • No bank connections, ever. DebtBoss never touches your accounts or your money — you enter your debts, you log your payments.
  • No ads, no data selling, no third-party trackers. Our business model is a simple Premium subscription through Apple.
  • Guest mode lets you try the whole thing without even creating an account — your data stays on your device.
  • Delete everything, instantly, in-app. Settings → Delete Account removes your data permanently. No emails, no retention games.

The full details are in our privacy policy — it's short and written in plain English, which tells you as much as its contents do.

Who it's for

DebtBoss is for people who can make their payments but struggle to stay motivated through a multi-year slog — the people who've started spreadsheets, made plans, and watched them fade by month three. If that's you, a monster with a shrinking HP bar might be the missing piece.

And to be clear about the other case: if you're struggling to cover your minimum payments, an app isn't what you need first — free, expert help is, from StepChange, National Debtline, MoneyHelper, or Citizens Advice. DebtBoss is a motivation tool, not debt advice.

Try it

DebtBoss is available on the App Store for iPhone. Start in guest mode, spawn your first monster, and land your first hit — the HP bar is waiting.
